The Family Learning Center (FLC) is at the heart of the school. Its mission is to emphasize, foster and develop family renewal by bringing students, teachers and parents/guardians together to focus on personal growth. This is achieved through intentional action-reflection activities, which include seminars, discovery group meetings, retreats and other experiences where community members support and challenge one another.
Parent Discovery: Recognizing that character is taught by example, Hyde requires all parents/guardians to make a commitment to their own growth and change. Parent Discovery Group meetings are held monthly to help facilitate this, and are led by Hyde alumnae parents, current parents and veteran Hyde faculty members. Parents/guardians choose either a Thursday evening or Saturday morning to attend their monthly Parent Discovery Group meeting.
Parent Volunteers: Parents are also involved with the FLC through volunteer opportunities. Volunteers are needed for such things as field trip chaperones, office assistance, computer help, library and classroom help, and lunch and playground monitors. (Parents who volunteer on a regular basis are required by the Department Of Education to have fingerprint clearance.) Volunteer applications are available at the FLC office.
Parent Facilitators: Parents/guardians who are interested in facilitating Discovery Groups should contact the FLC for specific information about this role and its responsibilities. If a commitment is made, the FLC provides training over the course of several months. Our vision of the future includes having all Parent Discovery Groups led by current Hyde parents and guardians. |
